'Israël moet verliezen'De slachting in Gaza is de laatste fase van een al meer dan zestig jaar durende oorlog van Israël tegen Palestina. Het doel van deze oorlog is altijd hetzelfde gebleven: het gebruik van een overweldigende militaire overmacht om de Palestijnen uit te schakelen als politieke factor die zich kan verzetten tegen de voortgaande Israëlische overname van hun land en grondstoffen. De Israëlische oorlog tegen de Palestijnen heeft Gaza en de Westelijke Jordaanoever in twee gigantische politieke gevangenissen veranderd. Wat betreft principes, tactieken of gevolgen is niks evenredig in deze oorlog. Israël draagt de verantwoordelijk voor het begin en de intensivering van de oorlog en is verantwoordelijk voor het einde van de meest recent pauze in de vijandigheden. Israël moet verliezen. Het is niet genoeg om op te roepen tot een nieuw staakt-het-vuren of tot meer humanitaire hulp. Het is niet genoeg om aan te dringen op het hervatten van de dialoog en de zorgen en het lijden van beide zijden in het conflict te erkennen. Als we geloven in het principe van democratische zelfbeschikking, als we het recht tot verzet tegen militaire agressie en koloniale overheersing erkennen, dan zijn we gedwongen partij te kiezen...tegen Israël en voor de mensen in de Gaza en op de Westelijke Jordaanoever. We moeten doen wat we kunnen om te verhinderen dat Israël haar oorlog wint. Israël moet accepteren dat zijn verantwoordelijkheid afhangt van gerechtigheid en vreedzame co-existentie met haar buren, en niet van het criminele gebruik van geweld. Wij vinden dat Israël onmiddellijk en onvoorwaardelijk zijn aanval op Gaza moet staken, de bezetting van de Westelijke Jordaanoever moet beëindigen en alle aanspraak op het bezit of de controle over gebieden buiten de grenzen van 1967 moet opgeven. Wij doen een beroep op de Britse regering en de Britse bevolking om alle mogelijke stappen te ondernemen om Israël te dwingen in te stemmen met deze eisen, om te beginnen een programma van boycot, terugtrekking van investeringen en sancties.
